Gaiking
1970s Japanese cartoon, syndicated to the US as part of the 'Force Five' block. Gaiking was a robot dragon piloted by the incredibly named Sanshiro Tsuwabuki (Aries Astronopolis in the US version). Aries was a star pitcher for the Japanese league until the Dark Horror Army realized he had the psychic ability to pilot the Space Dragon and tried to kill him in the middle of a game. Unfortunately for them, they only succeeded in breaking his wrist and ruining his career, so he had plenty of time to learn the robot controls. He spent the next 10 seasons kicking their asses all over the universe.
